Colonials Fall At Michigan State, 68-35

East Lansing, Mich. / Breslin Center - The Robert Morris University women's basketball team ended a four-game road trip with a 68-35 setback at Michigan State Sunday afternoon. The Colonials slip to 0-5 on the year while the Spartans move to 5-0, including 4-0 at the Breslin Center.

Junior Kelly Hartwell (Woodbridge, Va. / Gar-Field) led Robert Morris with nine points, all of which came in the second half. Junior Artemis Spanou (Rhodes, Greece / Nea Smyrni) finished up with eight points and nine rebounds.

Michigan State, which has been holding teams to 38.0 points per game this season, held RMU to 25.5 percent shooting. Jasmine Thomas led the Spartans in scoring at 14 points while Annalise Pickrel and Courtney Schiffauer added 11 and 10 points each.

The Colonials fell behind 7-0 early on and were put in further trouble as they were whistled for eight early fouls, including three on starting senior center Anna Gailite (Riga, Latvia / Riga Secondary #47). Jasmine Thomas had nine points in the first 10 minutes of the opening frame that allowed the Spartans to charge out to a 21-7 lead.

Michigan State shot 45.5 percent in the opening frame and held RMU to a 13.6 percent (3-22) in the first half as they took a 30-12 halftime lead. The Spartans opened the second half with a 13-2 surge to build a 29-point margin en route to a 68-35 win.

Robert Morris returns to the Charles L. Sewall Center for the first time in four games on Wednesday, Nov. 28, when they host Stony Brook in a 7:00 p.m. game.
