Mount Defeats RMU, 4-0, in NEC Quarterfinals

The Robert Morris University men's tennis team concluded its 2012-13 campaign Friday afternoon with a 4-0 loss to No. 4 seed Mount St. Mary's in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Northeast Conference Tournament at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J.

RMU, the No. 5 seed in the tournament, finishes the year with an overall record of 4-15.

The Mount picked up victories at the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 flights while also securing the doubles point thanks to wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 flights.

At No. 1, Matt Blake defeated freshman Matheus Neves Ferreira (Barueri, Brazil), 6-2 and 6-2, while Mike Zabetakis earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over senior Andre Coiro (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) at No. 5.

At the sixth singles flight, Taylor Place defeated freshman Fernando Leite (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil), 6-1 and 6-1.

In doubles action, Blake and Place of Mount St. Mary's teamed up for an 8-5 win over junior Angus Thomson (Kedron, Australia) and senior Tarun Kishan (Mississauga, Ontario / Saint Francis Xavier Secondary), while Mike Slomon and Adam Salam defeated Neves Ferreira and freshman Juan Andres Hirmas (Padre Las Casas, Chile), 8-3, at No. 2.
