Carper Finishes 19th at NCAA Championships

Junior Chris Carper (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) of the Robert Morris University men's track & field team concluded his 2013 outdoor campaign Saturday by taking part in the javelin at the 2013 NCAA Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, on the campus of the University of Oregon.

Carper finished 19th, unleashing a throw of 63.96 meters (209'10"). Thanks to the performance, Carper earns All-America Honorable Mention honors, joining junior teammate Rachael Kotula (East Berlin, Pa. / Bermudian Springs) of the RMU women's outdoor track & field, who earned the same accolade in the javelin Wednesday.

On his first attempt of the event, Carper posted a toss of 56.11 meters (184'1"). He followed that with a throw of 63.69 meters (208'11") before registering his best distance of the meet on his third and final throw.

Claiming the individual title in the javelin at the 2013 NCAA Championships was senior Sam Humphreys of Texas A&M, who compiled a throw of 77.95 meteres (255'9").

The NCAA Championships concludes a record-breaking campaign for Carper in the javelin. In 2013, Carper registered each of the top five marks in school history in the event and also owns 10 of the top 13 distances in school history.
