Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Thanksgiving off week didn't bother
Robert Morris University junior
David Friedmann, who has been named the Atlantic Hockey Conference
Travel Team USA Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in less than a month.
Friedmann, a forward from Toronto, recorded five points (2g, 3a) over the weekend as No. 17 RMU swept conference opponent Sacred Heart in a two-game series at 84 Lumber Arena.
After earning an assist in the Colonials'
5-4 overtime win Friday, Friedmann scored two goals and assisted on two others in an
8-4 rout Saturday, becoming the first RMU player to net four points in a game this season.
Friedmann earned his first Offensive Player of the Week award two weeks ago for his four-point performance in a road series at American International. The 5-foot-11 left-handed shooter has nine points (5g, 4a) in his past four games, giving him 14 points (8g, 6a) for the season.
Friedmann's recent scoring surge has been part of an impressive stretch for his line, which includes sophomore
Daniel Leavens and freshman
Brady Ferguson. That trio has combined for 24 points (10g, 14a) during the Colonials' current four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1).
First-place Robert Morris (10-1-3, 8-1-3 AHC) wraps up fall-semester action this weekend in Erie against in-state rival Mercyhurst. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday.
The Colonials have eight home games remaining this regular season, plus the third annual Three Rivers Classic on Dec. 29-30 at Consol Energy Center. Robert Morris joins the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins in hosting the third annual event, which also features Penn State, Western Michigan and Colgate.
In addition, the Colonials will play the first outdoor game in program history on Jan. 3 at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio. RMU will face Bowling Green at noon as part of the
Walleye Winterfest extravaganza.
