Moon Township, Pa. – In what has become a yearly ritual, the Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team has been recognized for its high-quality work in the classroom.

As one of 84 NCAA Division I programs that boasted a team grade-point average of 3.0 or better during the 2013-14 academic year, the Colonials were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association's Academic Honor Squads list.

Under head coach Katy Phillips, RMU has been deemed an Academic Honor Squad for eight consecutive seasons. That run includes the 2012 season, when the Colonials had the best collective GPA in the Northeast Conference (NEC).

"I am really proud of our team for earning the IWLCA Honor Squad award again for the 2014 season," said Phillips, who enters her 11th season in charge of RMU. "This is a result of our ongoing commitment to be successful in the classroom as well as on the field."

In 2013-14, the women's lacrosse team posted a combined 41 semester GPAs above 3.0, five of those being perfect 4.0 semesters. On top of that, the following Colonials received special Academic Honor Roll recognition from the IWLCA: Lauren Roberts, Emily VanDyne, Stacy Wade, Kristi Marks and Kristin Yoviene.

Those five were honored for compiling cumulative GPAs of 3.5 or higher; only juniors and seniors were eligible for Honor Roll placement. Roberts (3.55 GPA, Biology), VanDyne (3.79, Finance/Marketing) and Wade (3.94, Psychology) were seniors last spring, while Marks (3.69, Environmental Science) and Yoviene (3.59, Early Childhood Education) return for their senior seasons.

"It's an honor to have five players placed on the IWLCA Honor Roll list," Phillips said. "Our players consistently set high academic goals for themselves and the team on an annual basis."

RMU went 11-6 in 2014, including a 5-2 mark in NEC play and a trip to the conference semifinal round. The Colonials host three Fall Clinic Days in the upcoming weeks, including the first one on Sunday, Sept. 14. Click here for information on how to register!
