Pittsburgh, Pa. - In the wake of its most offensive weekend of the season, the
Robert Morris University men's hockey team had two forwards share Atlantic Hockey Conference Player of the Week accolades.
After combining for 13 points in a two-game sweep of American International, senior linemates
Scott Jacklin and
Cody Wydo were dubbed
Travel Team USA co-Players of the Week on Tuesday by the AHC.
Jacklin put up two goals and five assists on the weekend for seven points, the most productive two-game stretch by a Colonial this season, while Wydo notched three goals and assisted on three others, breaking the program's career scoring record in the process. (In addition to the conference award, Jacklin also
received the NCAA's Second Star of the Week.)
This is Wydo's second AHC Player of the Week honor this season; it's the first for Jacklin. RMU players have collected 12 weekly awards this season, with Wydo,
David Friedmann (Player of the Week),
Dalton Izyk (Goalie of the Week) and
Terry Shafer (Goalie) winning multiple times.
Both Wydo and Jacklin tied the program single-game record with five points each in the
Colonials' 9-4 win Saturday night. Wydo, a Michigan native, capped RMU's six-goal third period with his third tally of the evening, pushing him one point past alumnus Nathan Longpre (2007-11) for the most in the 11-year history of Colonials Division I hockey.
Wydo has 139 points (79g, 60a) in 138 college games; the Hobey Baker Award candidate (vote
here) is second in the national scoring race with 32 points (14g, 18a), two behind Boston University's Jack Eichel, a presumed top-two pick in the upcoming NHL Draft.
Jacklin is also climbing RMU's all-time leaderboard, as his 96 career points (44g, 52a) rank fifth in program history. The British Columbia-born center is just two goals shy of Longpre for the third-most by a Colonial and one assist short of Trevor Lewis (2008-12) for fifth on that list.
In addition to huge weekends for Jacklin and Wydo, the third member of their line was a finalist for Player of the Week. Junior Pittsburgh native
Zac Lynch matched Wydo's output against AIC, scoring three goals and three assists. After combining for four points in their previous seven games, the Colonials' top trio netted an incredible 19 points in a pair of crowd-pleasing victories at 84 Lumber Arena.
First-place RMU (15-5-4, 12-3-3 AHC) scored 14 goals in all during its emphatic home sweep of conference foe AIC, but now the Colonials face back-to-back weekends on the road. That challenging stretch starts this Friday and Saturday in Worcester, Mass., as Pittsburgh's College Hockey Team takes on Holy Cross (8-10-5, 7-5-5 AHC).
Robert Morris returns home to 84 Lumber Arena on Feb. 6-7 for two games against Canisius. The Colonials entertained
a sellout crowd on Saturday for Military Appreciation Night; they have just three regular-season home games remaining this season.
