Pittsburgh, Pa. -
Robert Morris University senior forward
Cody Wydo was named one of the finalists for the Senior CLASS Award on Friday morning, one of just 10 NCAA Division I men's hockey players to make it to the final stage of voting.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their athletic platforms to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. The award program is designed exclusively for college seniors who are using their complete athletic eligibility.
The finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 30 candidates announced in October. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to submit votes online at the Senior CLASS Award website through March 30. Those votes will be combined with input from media and Division I head coaches to determine the winner, which will be announced during the Frozen Four in early April.
Fellow RMU senior
Scott Jacklin was also a nominee for the award. For more information on the finalists and to place your vote, visit

Wydo, a native of Southgate, Michigan, is the RMU all-time scoring leader and team captain. The dynamic winger has 146 points across four seasons and is the active goal-scoring leader in all of Division I hockey, boasting 83 tallies. Wydo currently ranks in the top 10 nationally in points (39), goals (18), shorthanded goals (2), plus-minus rating (plus-20) and shots on goal (128).
Additionally, Wydo is the program leader in career games played (144), total shots on goal (462), shorthanded goals (6), plus-minus (plus-57) and multi-goal games (18). He set RMU single-season records for goals (31) and points (54) as a junior in 2013-14, when he claimed Atlantic Hockey Conference First-Team honors, AHC Tournament MVP and a spot on the All-USCHO Second Team.
Along with many of his teammates, Wydo has served as a volunteer for the Arctic Foxes youth hockey program and the Sewickley Harvest Festival, on top of his previous role as coordinator of the Colonials' roadside cleanup initiative. He is a three-time member of the AHC All-Academic Team and is pursuing a degree in finance and accounting.
Wydo and the 18th-ranked Colonials (20-5-5, 17-3-4 AHC) will carry an eight-game unbeaten streak into a two-game series at league rival RIT on Feb. 20-21. RMU leads the rest of the conference by nine points and is close to clinching its first regular-season league title with just four games to go before the AHC tournament.
