Moon Township, Pa. - For the third time in the opening month of the women's lacrosse season,
Robert Morris University freshman
Dana Davis has been named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week.
Davis, a midfielder from Garnet Valley, Pa.,
earned her third such prize in four weeks Monday afternoon, the reward for continuing to shine as RMU went 1-1 from March 9-15. An all-around performer, Davis compiled a team-best 10 ground balls and four caused turnovers in two games, in addition to three goals and four draw controls.
Davis had an especially dominant game March 9 vs. Detroit, a 14-12 home victory for the Colonials. On top of scoring her first NCAA hat trick, the former all-American at Garnet Valley High School picked up eight ground balls and forced the visiting Titans into three turnovers. She also chipped in three draw controls, helping Division I draw leader
Jessica Karwacki control possession.
On the season, Davis paces the Colonials in ground balls, with 18, and caused turnovers, with nine. She is fifth on the team in goals (nine) and sixth in points (12). Davis has scored on exactly half of her 18 shots, including a 5-for-8 rate on free-position attempts.
After suffering their first regulation loss of the season at Oregon last Friday, the Colonials (4-2) stay on the road this weekend for a pair of non-conference games. RMU faces Niagara at 3 p.m. Friday and St. Bonaventure at noon Sunday.
