Pittsburgh, Pa. - The
Robert Morris University men's hockey team will break new ground in its 12th season of Division I hockey, including the program's first-ever matchup with the University of Michigan and a pair of tournaments over the winter break.
Coming off its first regular-season Atlantic Hockey Conference championship and a team-record 24 wins in 2014-15, Pittsburgh's College Hockey Team will begin the 2015-16 campaign at the RMU Island Sports Center's 84 Lumber Arena with a pair of games against league foe Air Force on Oct. 16-17.

American International (Nov. 6-7), Sacred Heart (Nov. 27-28), Canisius (Dec. 12 & Feb. 27), Bentley (Jan. 8-9), Mercyhurst (Jan. 22-23) and Army West Point (Feb. 12-13) join Air Force as teams scheduled to make a trip to the "Lumber Yard."
An early highlight will arrive over Halloween weekend, when the Colonials make the trip to Ann Arbor, Mich., for a two-game non-conference showdown with Michigan at historic Yost Arena. That series is followed by five straight weekends of Atlantic Hockey competition leading into the winter break.
For the fourth consecutive year, RMU will serve as the host institution for the Three Rivers Classic at CONSOL Energy Center, home of the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins. Along with their traditional matchup against Penn State on Monday, Dec. 28, the Colonials will face either UMass-Lowell or Clarkson on the tournament's second day.
Just three days after the Three Rivers Classic, RMU heads to New Hampshire for the Ledyard Classic on the campus of Dartmouth University. While in the Granite State, head coach
Derek Schooley's squad will challenge the host Big Green on Saturday, Jan. 2 and either Union or Merrimack the following day.
The Colonials will take on each of their 10 Atlantic Hockey rivals in at least one weekend series each, plus February rematches against Sacred Heart, Army West Point, Air Force and Canisius. RMU's lone matchup with Mercyhurst will take place Jan. 22-23 at 84 Lumber Arena, as the two Pennsylvania schools will meet for the first time since this spring's AHC semifinal thriller.
Much like last year's setup with Niagara, the Colonials and Canisius will face off in a pair of home-and-home series, ending each semester with the usually-strong Golden Griffins. RMU will wrap up the regular season with a single home game against Canisius on Saturday, Feb. 27, with the Atlantic Hockey playoffs to follow.
In addition to the NCAA games described above, RMU is scheduled to host the University of Guelph (Ont.) in an exhibition contest on Sunday, Oct. 11.
