Pittsburgh, Pa. – For the second consecutive week, the
Robert Morris University women's hockey team is receiving votes in the
USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll, released by USCHO.com. The Colonials are also earning votes in the
USCHO.com Poll for the first time this year.
Robert Morris is one of two teams in College Hockey America (CHA) currently receiving votes nationally. Additionally, RMU was elevated from No. 15 last week to No. 3 this week in the Women's Division I PairWise Rankings, a system that attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participants for the NCAA Division I women's hockey tournament.
RMU remains undefeated following a win and a tie against Vermont at 84 Lumber Arena this weekend. Their unbeaten streak of six games ranks tied for first with No. 1 nationally-ranked Wisconsin. The Colonials rank among the top 10 in scoring offense (t-8
th), scoring defense (t-10
th), scoring margin (t-9
th), power play (6
th), and team winning percentage (t-4
th).
CHA Player of the Week
Brittany Howard posted four points in two games against the Catamounts. She dished out a pair of assists in Friday's 3-2 victory, and scored twice in RMU's tie with Vermont Saturday. Howard ranks tied for 18
th in the nation in points per game (1.33) and tied for 16
th in goals per game (0.67). Her freshman line mate,
Jaycee Gebhard, leads the Colonials with 10 points, and paces the nation in power-play goals (3), and points per game among rookies (1.67). Gebhard and fellow Notre Dame Hounds alum sophomore
Amber Rennie lead Robert Morris with six assists each.
Defensively, sophomore
Maggie LaGue checks in at No. 4 in the nation in points per game among defensemen (0.83), and ranks second nationally in blocked shots (23).
Robert Morris heads to Massachusetts this weekend for a two-game series at Merrimack on Friday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m.
