Somerset, N.J. – Anna Niki Stamolamprou and Nneka Ezeigbo of the Robert Morris University women's basketball team were respectively named Northeast Conference (NEC) Player and Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league this afternoon.
This is the fourth time in Stamolamprou's career that she has garnered NEC Player of the Week plaudits and the fifth time overall she has received a weekly honor from the conference. Ezeigbo is the first Robert Morris freshman to be selected as NEC Rookie of the Week since Feb. 10, 2015 when Megan Smith collected the award.
Stamolamprou, a senior guard from Thessaloniki, Greece, stuffed the stat sheet in the Colonials' two games against Delaware and Howard. She averaged 15.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per contest, while shooting 55 percent from the field and 50 percent on three-point attempts. Stamolamprou's 19-point effort on Sunday against the Bison moved her to fourth all-time in points at RMU with 1,413 for her career. The fourth-year guard could add additional accolades to an already illustrious career in the near future, as she sits six rebounds shy of becoming the 15th member of the 500 rebound club, which would also have her join former NEC Player of the Year recipients Artemis Spanou and Angela Pace as the only players in program history to tally 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 300 assists.
Ezeigbo, a freshman center out of Ewing, N.J., continues to impress on both ends of the court with each start. She scored 11 points in both of the Colonials' games this past week – setting and then matching her career high – and shot 63 percent from the floor. Ezeigbo added an average of 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per contest, with the latter number boosted from a five-rejection afternoon on Sunday against Howard.
Robert Morris returns to the road for its final two non-conference games, starting with a tilt at Iowa on Friday, Dec. 9 set for an 8:00 p.m. eastern tip.
