Staten Island, N.Y. – The
Robert Morris University indoor track & field team sits in second place after the first day of competition at the Northeast Conference Championships Friday at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Athletic Complex.
RMU tallied 27 points Saturday, five points clear of third-place Mount St. Mary's. Sacred Heart leads the event entering the second and final day with 39 points.
A pair of Colonials posted runner-up finishes in field events Friday, and both tied the mark of the first-place finisher, but each lost out on the various tiebreaking procedures.
Junior
April Krivoniak placed second in the shot put with a mark of 13.65 meters. In doing so, she surpassed the ECAC standard for the third time this season, and she also notched the seventh-best toss in school history.
Senior
Jessica Guyett came in sixth in the shot put with a distance of 12.50 meters. Guyett finished among the top six in this event in the conference championships in each of her four seasons.
Sophomore
Breanna Manzolillo was the runner-up in the pole vault with a career-best mark of 3.50 meters.
Like the shot put, RMU placed a pair among the top six in the long jump. Freshman
Mathilde Terleth was fourth in the event with a season-best leap of 5.45 meters. Her bound sits as one of the top 10 in program history. Sophomore
Tricia Panos was sixth in the same event with a career-best bound of 5.25 meters.
A pair of Colonials qualified Friday for finals that will take place Saturday.
Sophomore
Rachel Crane won her heat in the 800-meter run, and posted the third-best time overall in qualifying, by stopping the clock in 2:20.59. Meanwhile, junior
Amanda Choma just missed joining Crane in the final as her career-best time of 2:21.22 was .05 seconds shy of the last qualifier.
Terleth qualified for the final of the 500-meter run. She placed second in her heat with a time of 1:19.33.
Sophomore
Maggie Prorok posted the eighth-fastest time in program history in the 3,000-meter run. She crossed the finish line in 10:33.51.
RMU will have athletes in five running events and three field events as the conference championships conclude Saturday.
