Moon Township, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team, in an effort to raise cancer awareness and funds for improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their families, will host its inaugural United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/HEADstrong Foundation Cancer Awareness game on Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m. against Saint Joseph's.
The landmark initiative is set to take place during the designated USILA/HEADstrong Cancer Awareness Week (April 15-23, 2016) as collegiate men's lacrosse teams nationwide will make a statement on the field by pledging a game, raising funds and wearing HEADstrong awareness gear to support the cause.
In 2005, Nicholas Colleluori, a lacrosse player at Hofstra University who shared the field with his younger brother, Michael, was diagnosed with large B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Experiencing firsthand the hardships of cancer patients and their families, Colleluori created the
HEADstrong Foundation to empower athletes to support his mission. Since 2007, HEADstrong has raised over $8.1 million to support more than 12,000 patients and their families.
Fans can support the HEADstrong Foundation through a donation to Robert Morris'
Project Gameday.
