Karwacki Ties NCAA Record in Colonials Victory

Jessica Karwacki ties record for fastest goal from the draw in NCAA history

Loretto, Pa. – Robert Morris University women's lacrosse outscored Saint Francis 7-2 in the final 15 minutes and 28 seconds to take a 13-11 victory and remain tied for first place in Northeast Conference play. Jessica Karwacki (Sparks, Md./Hereford) racked up seven points on four goals and three assists, including a goal that took just six seconds for Karwacki to take from winning the draw to hitting the back of the net, tying an NCAA record for the fastest goal from the draw in women's lacrosse history.

Karwacki's four goals were matched by Emily Jamison (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) who also scored a season-high four goals, pacing the Colonials offense. Karwacki won 12 draw controls, as Robert Morris dominated the draw 16-10. Micah Brown and Megan Wolfgang led the defensive effort, each with two ground balls. Brown caused three turnovers while Wolfgang caused two, keeping Robert Morris as the conference leader in that category.

Jessica Karwacki won the opening draw and raced to the Saint Francis net, firing a shot past the Red Flash goalkeeper nine seconds into the game to grab an early 1-0 Colonials lead. The opening goal by Karwacki is tied for the third-fastest goal to open a game in NCAA history. SFU answered with three consecutive goals before the Karwacki sisters teamed up to respond, Jessica passing to Corey who nabbed her first goal of the game. The Karwacki's put that track on repeat, with Jessica winning the ensuing draw and passing to Corey who scored her second of the game, just nine seconds later, tying the game 3-3. The back-to-back goals nine seconds apart by Corey Karwacki are tied as the fourth-fastest consecutive goals scored by the same team in NCAA history.

Emily Jamison got on the board with her nineteenth goal of the year to give the Colonials their first lead of the game. Jessica Karwacki added her second of the game, twenty-fifth of the season, on a man-up free-position goal, putting Robert Morris ahead 5-3 with 16:16 to play in the first half. The Red Flash once again scored three consecutive goals to take a 6-5 lead before Karwacki completed a hat trick with her third of the game on a free position shot, tying things up at six apiece. SFU pulled ahead 7-6 just six seconds before halftime on a free position goal by Morgan Day.

Robert Morris' offense was unable to connect for a goal on a long possession to start the second half. The Red Flash gained a 9-6 advantage with 18:24 to play but the Colonials closed the game, scoring seven of the last nine goals of the game.

Alexis Rusnak scored her second goal of the season with 15:28 to play. The Red Flash scored less than a minute later to retake a three-goal lead, 10-7. Jessica Karwacki won the ensuing draw and made a mad dash to the net, scoring her fourth goal of the game just six seconds later. The goals by SFU's Jessica Fischetti at 14:49 and by RMU's Jessica Karwacki at 14:43 ties an all-time NCAA record with Fastest Consecutive Goals by Opposing Teams (:06 Jackie Mascher, Yale // Cherie Greer, Virginia March 10, 1993).

Maggie Stella scooped up a ground ball to gain the possession for Robert Morris and battled her way up the field through heavy defensive pressure and muscled home her eighth career goal. Jamison scored twice to tie the game with 10:40 to play. Katie Breeze drew a free position shot with a Red Flash yellow card and scored a man-up goal to give the Colonials a 12-11 lead before Jamison put up her fourth score of the game to make it 13-11. Robert Morris was able to hold onto possession for most of the final seven minutes of the game to close out the win.

The Colonials (8-6 overall, 4-1 NEC) return to action at home for the final two games of the regular season with a 3:00pm game against Wagner on Friday, April 29 and Senior Day at 1:00pm Sunday, May 1.
