No. 8 Colonials Kick Off Women’s Hockey Weekend

RMU hosts RIT to open weekend of women’s hockey events in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The No. 8 Robert Morris University women's hockey team kicks off a weekend of high-level women's hockey competition in Pittsburgh, as the Colonials host RIT on Friday, Feb. 10 at 2:05 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1:05 p.m. in 84 Lumber Arena.
 
Pittsburgh also welcomes the 2017 NWHL All-Star Weekend to the Steel City on Saturday, Feb. 11 and Sunday, Feb. 12.
 
College Hockey America (CHA) front-runner Robert Morris (17-3-6, 10-2-2 CHA) and RIT (6-20-2, 4-8-2 CHA) face off following a bye week for the entire league. Prior to the break, the Colonials split with the Orange in Syracuse, N.Y. RMU claimed the first of two games by a 3-1 margin, and then fell to second-place Syracuse, 5-1.
 
RIT enters the weekend following back-to-back shutout victories over Lindenwood.

Robert Morris versus RIT

Robert Morris is 11-10-3 all-time against RIT. Earlier this season, the Colonials swept the Tigers by way of a pair of road victories: 4-3 and 5-1.

Robert Morris is set to face league opponents in the remaining six games of the regular season.
 
The Colonials currently lead the CHA standings by two points, ahead of Syracuse (10-11-5, 9-3-2) and Mercyhurst (10-16-2, 6-7-1).
 
Top-line trio Amber Rennie, Brittany Howard and Jaycee Gebhard have combined for 94 points through 26 games, averaging 3.62 points per game.
 
Redshirt junior forward and CHA Player of the Month (Nov., Dec.) Brittany Howard ranks among the top 10 nationally in points per game (8th; 1.50), assists per game (7th; 0.92), and power-play points (t-5th; 13).
 
Freshman forward and CHA Rookie of the Month (Oct., Nov., Dec., Jan.) Jaycee Gebhard leads the nation in power-play goals (seven) and ranks first in points per game among rookies (1.31).
 
It's an action packed weekend of high-level women's hockey in Pittsburgh, as the 2017 NWHL All-Star Weekend will take place Sat., Feb. 11 and Sun., Feb. 12 at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry, Pa.

RMU ranks second in the nation in penalty kills (130), fourth in power-play goals (25), tenth in power-play percentage (16.6%), ninth in goals per game (3.23), tied for tenth in goal margin (+25), and tenth in goal margin per game (+0.96).
 
CHA Nod
Freshman forward Jaycee Gebhard was named CHA Rookie of the Month for January. She leads the league in goals (16), goals per game (0.62), power-play goals (seven), power-play points (14), plus-rating (+31), and plus-minus (+15). Gebhard paces the nation in power-play goals and points per game among rookies (1.31).
 
Olympic Ambitions
Freshman Aneta Ledlova is currently competing with her national team for a chance to represent the Czech Republic in the 2018 Olympic Games. On Thursday, she recorded a goal and an assist to help the Czech Republic to a 5-0 win over Norway.
 
Trending
Redshirt junior Brittany Howard has posted a point in 21 of 26 games on the season. She is one point shy of moving into a tie with Thea Imbrogno for second place on the all-time individual career points list. She is 14 points away from being crowned as the new all-time points leader in RMU history.
 
Women's Hockey Weekend
RMU alumna Brianne McLaughlin and current Director of Operations Kelley Steadman will compete in this weekend's 2017 NWHL All-Star Weekend in Pittsburgh.
 
Making Their Mark
Two victories this weekend would propel the 2017 squad to a tie for second place all time in wins in a season in RMU lore.
