Moon Township, Pa. – Anna Niki Stamolamprou, recent alumna of the Robert Morris University women's basketball team, is a nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award, as announced by the organization in a release on Tuesday afternoon.
Stamolamprou, a native of Thessaloniki, Greece, is a two-time Northeast Conference (NEC) Scholar-Athlete Award recipient and was recently a finalist for the NEC Student-Athlete of the Year Award. She enjoyed an illustrious career in Moon Township, helping lead Robert Morris to three NEC Tournament crowns (2014, 2016, 2017) and subsequent NCAA Tournament appearances, and two NEC regular-season championships (2014, 2017). Stamolamprou was the 2017 NEC Player of the Year, a two-time NEC Tournament MVP (2016, 2017), and is one of two players in program history to accumulate 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists, and 100 steals in a career.
"It's a very special honor for Anna Niki to be nominated for an award of this magnitude," said head coach Charlie Buscaglia. "She has been a model student-athlete, and we are very proud of her exceptional development over her four years in our program. We appreciate the recognition for Anna Niki with great humility."
Stamolamprou, a four-time NEC Winter Commissioner's Honor Roll (3.75 GPA or higher) selection, graduated with Magna Cum Laude distinction in Spring 2017 with a Bachelor's degree in Economics.
Established in 1991 and now in its 27th year, the NCAA Woman of the Year Award recognizes exceptional student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service, and leadership. The NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee will choose the top 30 (10 from Division I, 10 from Division II, 10 from Division III) and then three finalists from each division. The top 30 honorees will be recognized and the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced at the annual award ceremony on Sunday, Oct. 22 in Indianapolis.
