Moon Township, Pa. - The
Robert Morris University football team held its annual spring game Saturday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium with the offense edging the defense, 31-26. The offense scoring system was normal with the addition of one point for each first down. The defense earned points by forcing three and outs, sacking the quarterback and forcing turnovers.
After Miles Canton came up with an interception to give the defense the early lead,
Chase Bodeman took an end around in from nine yards out to account for the first touchdown of the game.Â
Barr then led a 10-play, 75-yard drive that started the drive with a 25-yard completion down the sideline to
Aidan Howard. After four rushes by
Jonathan Wanat, Barr rushed for 10 yards, then hit
Terence Stephens for 11 yards. Stephens finished off the scoring drive with a three-yard run.
On the next possession,
Jon Muehlbauer picked off a pass, forcing a three and out recording four important points for the defense. After that
Jimmy Walker, led a scoring drive with the big play coming on a 21 yard pass to tight end Steven Petrick that took the ball down to the eight-yard line. Two players later, Walker hit Bodeman in the end zone for the third TD of the contest.
Defensive back
Heavon Price finished the big scoring plays in the contest coming up with a late interception.
All four Colonials quarterbacks took snaps under center with Barr producing the most yards with 57 on five completions.
Caleb Lewis was 6-of-9 for 41 yards while Walker went 3-of-7 for 37 yards and one touchdown. Martin was perfect, 4-of-4, for 21 yards. Barr, Walker and Martin each led touchdown drives.
Wanat rushed for 23 yards and Stephens tallied 18 yards. Petrick caught three passes for 31 yards to lead the receiving corps. Bodeman,
Tim Vecchio and Stephens each had three receptions as well. Howard's 25-yard catch was the longest of the game.
Brayden Thimons recorded a team-best six tackles, including two sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss.
TJ Neal added five tackles, a sack and two tackles for loss. In all, 20 different defensive players recorded at least one tackle.
