1963-65
The 2010 veteran's choice to be inducted into the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame, Mackey was one of the most dominant players in school history during his two seasons as a member of the junior college program under former head coach Gus Krop. In two years he finished with 1,034 points, the only player in school history to score over 1,000 points at the junior college level, before transferring to Gannon. A Junior College All-American, during his freshman campaign in 1963-64 Mackey scored 530 points, averaging 22.1 points per game. He was an NJCAA All-East Honorable Mention selection in leading RMU to a record of 19-5 (.792), and as a sophomore he led the 1964-65 Colonials to an undefeated regular season before RMU bowed in its first appearance in the NJCAA national tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. That season the Colonials finished with an overall record of 28-2 (.933). Mackey still owns the record for most points scored in a game by a player in a Robert Morris uniform, as he dropped 43 points in an 87-84 win over Walsh College Jan. 30, 1965. He is a native of Homestead, Pa.
