A native of Powell, Ohio, Newman served as RMU's inaugural quarterback from 1994 to 1997, leading the Colonials to a pair of Northeast Conference championships (1996, 1997) and a pair of ECAC Bowl victories (1996, 1997). Newman owns the Robert Morris record for career starts with 38. As the starting quarterback for the Colonials, Newman posted a record of 28-9-1 (.750), the best winning percentage in school history. Over his four years, Newman completed 426 of his 833 passing attempts (51.1 percent) for 5,771 yards and ranks second all-time at Robert Morris with 64 career touchdown passes.
