A two-way player who started all 20 games for the Colonials after transferring from Pitt, Butler caught 29 passes for a team-leading 459 yards from his running back position in 2002. The next year as a senior, he converted to strong safety and made 84 tackles, intercepted two passes, broke up nine passes and forced two fumbles en route to NCAA Division I-AA All-American honors. After RMU, he signed with San Diego Chargers and appeared in five regular season games in 2004. Butler also spent time with the Ravens, Patriots and Chiefs before finishing his playing career in the Arena Football League.
