Kelvin Ramirez and sophomore
Connor Hain of the Robert Morris men's soccer team were honored by the Horizon League for their efforts in the classroom during the 2022 season, with the end of the year academic awards, announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Ramirez was named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team, while Hain earned honorable mention status in recognition of the pair's hard work and dedication academically and athletically for the Colonials.
To earn Horizon League All-Academic Team distinction, a student-athlete must own a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scale, participate in 50 percent of a program's competitions and have spent at least one academic year at their respective institution.
Faculty athletic representatives of the Horizon League vote on the teams. Ties are not broken, and student-athletes that earn at least 25 percent of the votes but are not part of the #HLMSOC All-Academic Team earn honorable mention status.
Ramirez, a native of Toronto, Ontario, and a psychology major, has maintained a cumulative GPA of 4.00. He has started in 13 games this fall as a defender, while finding the back of the net twice this season. Ramirez tallied his first goal of the season against Northern Kentucky, which ended up being the game-winner before scoring again the following week at Milwaukee.
The Toronto product has helped the Colonials backline sit second in the conference in fewest goals allowed this season. Ramirez was an honorable mention selection last season.
Hain, a native of North Royalton, Ohio, and an engineering major, has maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA as well. He has appeared in all 14 contests with nine starts as a midfielder for RMU this season. Hain carded his first assist in a 5-0 shutout victory at Milwaukee in September. The North Royalton product has registered five shots and three shots on goal during 2022.
This is the first time Hain has been honored by the Horizon League in his career.
RMU returns to the pitch on Wednesday, November 2, when they host IUPUI for senior day, beginning at 2:05 p.m.
