Moon Township, Pa. - Monday afternoon presented a case of deja vu for the Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team, as midfielders
Kristin Yoviene and
Dana Davis were honored in tandem for the second time in a month.
The Northeast Conference (NEC) announced that the senior Yoviene (Offensive Player of the Week) and the freshman Davis (Rookie of the Week) were
part of its honor roll for the period spanning from March 16-22. The Colonials went 2-0 over that time, collecting road victories against Niagara and St. Bonaventure to improve to 6-2.
For Davis, this is her third consecutive such honor and her fourth in five weeks. The native of Garnet Valley, Pa., had her finest offensive week of the season, contributing six goals to boost her season total to 15 and tacking on an assist. Davis registered her first career four-goal game Friday at Niagara, helping RMU hold off the Purple Eagles
by a 12-10 count.
As usual, Davis also assisted in the Colonials' defensive efforts, adding four ground balls and two caused turnovers in a
17-10 triumph over the Bonnies on Sunday afternoon. She leads RMU with 22 ground-ball pickups and 11 caused turnovers, displaying her worth effectively through the first eight games of her NCAA career.
Yoviene continues to pace RMU's lethal attack, which is averaging 15.9 goals per game, the third-highest in Division I. The senior from Easton, Md., earned her second weekly prize of the season and fourth of her career after posting five goals and three assists in two games.
A versatile offensive player, Yoviene has at least one assist in all eight games this season and has netted a goal in seven of those. Her three-goal, two-assist performance Sunday marked her fourth game of five or more points this season; she leads the Colonials in goals (19), assists (18), points (37) and total shots (44).
This season, Yoviene has risen from ninth on RMU's all-time scoring list to third. She has 140 points (95g, 45a) in 57 career games, 25 behind Jenn Collins (2006-09) for second place. Ashley Levering (2006-09) is the Colonials' top scorer in 11 years of D-I lacrosse, as she compiled 179 points in 66 games.
Robert Morris returns home this Sunday to conclude its non-conference schedule against Campbell. The Colonials and Camels will square off at noon from Joe Walton Stadium on the Moon Township campus.
