Earning football’s fourth Higher Images RMU Male Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the 2013 fall season is sophomore linebacker Kimani Smith. A native of Erie, Pa., Smith was an integral part of a Robert Morris defense that held Central Connecticut State over 100 yards under its average total offense and also found the end zone twice in a 54-21 win Nov. 9 in New Britain, Conn. At the 8:28 mark of the second quarter, Smith intercepted CCSU quarterback Nick SanGiacomo and returned it 31 yards for a touchdown to give the Colonials a commanding 26-7 advantage. The pick six came less than a minute after redshirt senior Eric Lowry intercepted SanGiacomo and returned his 38 yards to paydirt for the score. Smith also added five tackles in the victory over the Blue Devils and for his efforts was tabbed the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week (11/11/13). On the 2013 campaign, Smith has posted 34 tackles, including four and-a-half for losses of 16 yards, and leads the Colonials in quarterback hurries with seven.
