The RMU cheerleaders are an active and integral part of the university. The year consists of cheering at games, practicing, competing and participating in service events all year long. The RMU cheerleading team is present at all football games and men's and women's basketball games. Not all cheerleaders will cheer for all games.
The team has mandatory practices and workouts twice a week. The team attends a NCA College camp each year in order to qualify for NCA College Nationals, which is held in Dayton, Fla., each April.
RMU Cheerleading Benefits
The RMU cheerleading team has a preseason camp that allows for individuals to move on campus two weeks prior to classes beginning in the fall. This allows RMU cheerleaders to focus on getting a jump start on new material and the season to reduce being overwhelmed when the semester begins.
The RMU cheerleading team has support from the RMU Athletic Department in the areas of academics, athletic training, sports medicine and strength & conditioning. This gives individuals access to priority scheduling, tutors and athletic advisors to make sure academics are a top priority.
Teams are open to men and women. Cheerleaders are also permitted to travel to postseason tournament football and basketball games.
Basic Requirements for RMU Cheerleaders:
• Must be enrolled at the University with 12 credit hours
• Must maintain a 2.0 grade point average
• Must be in good physical condition, examined and cleared with approval by RMU Athletic Training Staff
• Must have health insurance
The University provides all uniforms, travel bags, warmups, poms, per diem while traveling, hotel accommodations and all other travel expenses in regard to game travel.
