Senior forward Artemis Spanou of the women’s basketball team garners the Higher Images RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week honor for Nov. 20, 2013, her first of the 2013-14 season and eighth of her career. A native of Rhodes, Greece, Spanou was tabbed the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player of the Week (11/18/13) after averaging 24.0 points, 17.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in leading the Colonials to home wins over Marshall and Coppin State last week. She extended her streak of consecutive double-double contests to 27 last week, the second longest in NCAA Division I history, and also became the program’s all-time leading rebounder in the process. In a 67-48 win over the Thundering Herd, Spanou tallied 31 points and 17 boards. She also guided Robert Morris to its win over Coppin State with 17 points, 17 rebounds, six assists and two blocks. Spanou has now compiled 1,127 career rebounds, which helped her eclipse the old record of 1,120 that was originally established by former Colonial Elise James (1996-2000).
