Named one of two Giant Eagle RMU Male Student-Athlete of the Week selections for Dec. 28, 2016, is senior guard Kavon Stewart of the basketball team. In a 74-71 victory over Buffalo (12/21/16) at PPG Paints Arena that concluded RMU’s 2016-17 non-conference schedule, Stewart finished with 18 points, three rebounds, a game-high seven assists and a steal. He scored 14 points in the second half and was also clutch for the Colonials down the stretch, going 3-for-4 at the free-throw line to help seal the win. For his efforts, Stewart was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week, his first career weekly honor. In 13 games this season, Stewart is averaging 11.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per contest. He also ranks second in the NEC in steals with an average of 1.92 per contest.
