Senior guard Karvel Anderson of the men’s basketball squad takes home the final Higher Images RMU Male Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the 2013 calendar year after leading the Colonials to a 67-63 victory at Duquesne (12/14/13) last Saturday. A native of Elkhart, Ind., Anderson scored a game-high 17 points for Robert Morris in its win over the Dukes, hitting five of his 11 shots from the field, including 5-for-10 from beyond the arc, while going 2-for-4 at the free-throw line. The Colonials held a 58-52 advantage over Duquesne with under five minutes to play, and Anderson buried a pair from beyond the arc in a span of one minute and 17 seconds to help RMU open up a 64-54 advantage with 3:24 to go. He also assisted on a layup from senior guard Anthony Myers-Pate with just 17 seconds to go that gave Robert Morris a 66-61 cushion, and his free throw with 3.9 seconds left helped seal the victory. On the 2013-14 season, Anderson leads RMU in scoring (18.5 ppg) on the strength of 40 three-pointers, an average of 3.64 per game that is tops in the Northeast Conference.
