Freshman Max Palmer is one of two student-athletes from the golf team to be named the Giant Eagle RMU Male Student-Athlete of the Week for May 24, 2017, the final honor of the 2016-17 campaign. In a vote of Northeast Conference head coaches, Palmer was named the 2017 NEC Rookie of the Year last Thursday. He is the first member of the Colonials to garner the award in program history. In 2016-17, Palmer led Robert Morris with a stroke average of 74.7, the sixth lowest single-season mark in the RMU record book. He produced a trio of top five finishes in 10 events and at the 2017 NEC Championships in Florida posted the best score by a freshman with a three-day total of 229, which was good enough to finish 13th.Â
