Senior forward Artemis Spanou garners the latest Higher Images RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week after a record-breaking week that saw her become the all-time leading rebounder in Northeast Conference history. A native of Rhodes, Greece, Spanou averaged 20.0 points and 19.5 rebounds in league wins over Bryant (1/11/14) and Fairleigh Dickinson (1/13/14) to help the Colonials move into a tie for first place in the league standings with a 3-1 record. Spanou finished with 26 points, 19 rebounds and five assists in an 11-point victory over the Bulldogs and followed that with 14 points and 20 rebounds in the win over the Knights. Her final carom of the game against FDU pushed her career total to 1,296 rebounds, surpassing the NEC record of 1,295 boards that was held by Jess Zinobile of Saint Francis U. On the week, Spanou shot 58.6 percent (17-for-29) and averaged 4.5 assists. For her efforts, Spanou was tabbed the Choice Hotels NEC Player of the Week (1/14/14) for the second time this season.
