Another week, another record for senior forward Artemis Spanou of the women’s basketball squad. In addition, Spanou garners her second straight Higher Images RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week honor and third of the 2013-14 season. The Rhodes, Greece, native established another Northeast Conference record last week, posting 30 points and 19 rebounds in a 74-63 win over Wagner (1/20/14) at the Charles L. Sewall Center to record her 73rd career double-double, a new league mark. That total eclipsed the old mark of 72 that was originally established by Jess Zinobile of Saint Francis U. from 1996 to 2000. On the week, Spanou averaged 27.5 points, 19.0 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 60.7 percent (17-for-28) from the field and 87.5 percent (21-for-24) at the free-throw line. She flirted with her first career triple-double to open the week in an 83-69 win over the Red Flash, posting 25 points, 19 rebounds and nine assists. For her efforts, she was tabbed the Choice Hotels NEC Player of the Week for the second straight time.Â
