One of two student-athletes to be named the Giant Eagle RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the final installment in January of 2018 is junior defenseman Kirsten Welsh of the hockey team. A native of Blackstock, Ontario, Welsh helped the Colonials go 1-0-1 against Penn State last weekend at the RMU Island Sports Center on Neville Island by finishing with five points thanks to three goals and a pair of assists. In a 2-2 tie to open the series Jan. 26, Welsh scored both goals. The next afternoon in a 4-2 victory, Welsh posted a helper on the eventual game-winning goal at the 12:54 mark of the second period. She helped seal the victory in the third period by lighting the lamp at the 16:57 mark. In 24 games this season, Welsh owns 12 goals and 12 assists for 24 points.
