Garnering the Peoples Natural Gas RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 12, 2018, is sophomore setter Whitney Brown of the volleyball program. In three matches last week, each of which the Colonials were able to put a mark in the win column, Brown averaged 45.3 assists and 7.3 digs. She finished with 30 assists in a 3-2 victory @ UMBC (9/7), then dished out 58 more helpers later that afternoon in another 3-2 win, this time over Loyola (9/7). Both matches were part of the Charm City Challenge. In a 3-1 victory over Youngstown State (9/11) at the North Athletic Complex, Brown finished with 48 assists in four sets. Brown, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., established a career high with her 58 assists against Loyola, which also tied the most assists in a match by a member of the Colonials in NCAA volleyball’s 25-point era (2008 to present). Brown ranks sixth in the NEC with an average of 7.37 assists per set and also ranks sixth in the league with 12 service aces.
