A regular when it comes to winning the Higher Images RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week, junior pitcher Nicole Sleith claims her first honor of the 2014 campaign after a stellar showing last weekend in Los Angeles, Calif., at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament. Despite going just 1-2 in the circle, Sleith allowed just three earned runs in 20.1 innings, an ERA of 1.03, while striking out 18 and walking eight. She allowed just one earned run in a 3-2 loss at No. 12 UCLA (2/14), almost knocking off the nationally ranked Bruins. She struck out eight the next day against UC Davis (2/15), then picked up her third win of the year by yielding just three hits and striking out six in a 5-0 win over Western Kentucky (2/16), a 2013 NCAA Tournament appearance. Early in the 2014 campaign, Sleith has pitched 34.1 innings, striking out 36 while allowing just 20 hits and posting an ERA of 0.61. For her role in the first two weeks of the season, Sleith was honored with the first Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week (2/17).
