Tabbed the Peoples Natural Gas RMU Male Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 9, 2019, is junior forward Yannis Mendy of the basketball team. In helping lead the Colonials to a 2-0 record last week at the North Athletic Complex and in the process running the winning streak for Robert Morris to three, Mendy averaged 9.0 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 53.3 percent (8-for-15) from the field. In a 69-62 win over Fairleigh Dickinson (1/3/19) that christened Northeast Conference play, Mendy scored a career-high 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. Two days later Mendy, a native of Metting, France, scored five points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds in a 62-59 triumph over Mount St. Mary's (1/5/19). It marked the second time during RMU’s three-game homestand where he finished with double-digit rebounds. In 15 games in 2018-19, each as a member of the starting lineup, Mendy is providing the Colonials with averages of 4.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.
