Freshman goaltender Arielle DeSmet of the women’s hockey program is the recipient of the Peoples Natural Gas RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week for March 6, 2019. DeSmet, a native of Charlotte, Vt., turned away 25 shots in a 5-0 victory over Syracuse (3/1/19) at the RMU Island Sports Center that helped the Colonials claim their third consecutive College Hockey America (CHA) regular-season crown. In improving to 3-2-1 (.583) as RMU’s starting netminder, DeSmet turned away six shots in the first period, 11 in the second and eight in the third. On the 2018-19 season, DeSmet owns a 1.64 goals against average and a .928 save percentage.
