In securing her fourth Higher Images RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week accolade of the 2013-14 campaign and 11th of her illustrious career, senior forward Artemis Spanou solidified her hold as arguably the greatest Robert Morris women’s basketball player in school history last week by leading the Colonials to the 2014 Northeast Conference Tournament title and a berth in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. In three games of the NEC Tournament, Spanou averaged 25.3 points, 15.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists per contest while shooting 67.5 percent (27-for-40) from the floor and 79.2 percent (19-for-24) at the free-throw line to garner NEC Tournament MVP honors. Her talents were on display for a national audience in the 2014 NEC Tournament championship game, a 78-64 win over in-state rival Saint Francis U. (3/16/14) at the Charles L. Sewall Center, as she reached the 30-point plateau for the fifth time in 2013-14 with 30 points while also pulling down 20 rebounds. For good measure, she added six assists, a block and a pair of steals. On the 2013-14 campaign, the native of Rhodes, Greece, leads the Colonials in both scoring (19.8 ppg) and rebounding (14.8 rpg) while shooting 51.9 percent (221-for-426) from the field.Â
