One of two male student-athletes to garner the Higher Images RMU Male Student-Athlete of the Week accolade for March 26, 2014, is senior Chris Carper of the track & field squad. A native of Altoona, Pa., the honor is Carper’s ninth of his career, tying former Robert Morris golfer C.G. Mercatoris (2007-11) for the most weekly awards by an RMU male student-athlete since RMUColonials.com launched in 2007. Carper garners the honor after being named the Northeast Conference Field Athlete of the Week (3/25/14) after establishing a new school record in his signature event, the javelin, in RMU’s first outdoor meet of the 2014 season in Winston-Salem, N.C., at the Wake Forest Open (3/21/14). Carper posted a toss of 72.13 meters (236’8”), a tally which ranked third in all of Division I during the opening weekend of competition. Carper broke his own school record that he established last season, also at the Wake Forest Open, and now owns each of the top six distances in school history in the javelin.
