Freshman forward Sol Castro of the basketball team has been tabbed the Chick-Fil-A Robinson RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 27, 2021, marking her second honor of the 2020-21 season. In a two-game sweep of Wright State last weekend at the UPMC Events Center that helped the Colonials pick up their first two wins in the Horizon League, Castro averaged 21.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks while converting 53.3 percent (16-for-30) of her shots from the field. She registered the first double-double of her career in the opener, a 50-43 triumph, with a career-high 23 points and 11 rebounds. Castro, a native of Rio Colorado, Argentina, added 29 points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks in a 68-65 win to help RMU complete the sweep. For her efforts, Castro was tabbed the Horizon League Rookie of the Week. Overall on the 2020-21 season, Castro is averaging 9.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest. A sport management major, Castro owns a 3.87 cumulative grade point average (GPA).
