Grad student Mackenzie Gandy of lacrosse has been tabbed one of two Chick-Fil-A Robinson RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week honorees for March 3, 2021. In helping move the Colonials to a perfect 3-0 with a 12-9 win over Gardner-Webb (2/28) at Joe Walton Stadium, Gandy paced the offense with eight points thanks to a team-high six goals and two assists. RMU fell behind, 7-3, early in the second half before Gandy, a native of Baltimore, Md., scored four goals and picked up both of her assists during an eight-goal run that gave the Colonials an 11-7 advantage. Gandy’s unassisted goal at 18:12 tied the game, 7-7, while she assisted on a goal by Melanie Gandy, her sister, to push RMU in front. The performance came a week after Mackenzie Gandy became the program’s all-time leading scorer. She has compiled 193 career points thanks to 116 goals and 77 assists. Gandy is pursuing a Master of Science degree in organizational leadership and owns a 3.89 cumulative grade point average.
