Senior Martha Gardner of the track & field team has been named the Chick-Fil-A Robinson RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week for April 21, 2021. In RMU’s first outdoor home meet since 2014, Gardner celebrated the return to the RMU Island Sports Center by claiming gold in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and in the process establishing a new school record in the event. She crossed the finish line with a time of 11:12.61, outlasting Haley Hamilton of Duquesne, who recorded a time of 11:48.50. Gardner’s time eclipsed the former record of 11:12.71 set by Lindsay Erath at the 2013 Northeast Conference (NEC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Gardner, a native of Medina, N.Y., and an actuarial science major who has maintained a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.83, ranks second in the Horizon League in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
