For the third consecutive week fifth-year forward Kahliel Spear of the men’s basketball team has been selected as the Chick-fil-A Robinson RMU Male Student-Athlete of the Week, as he garners the plaudit for Dec. 7, 2022. In a split last week to open Horizon League play, Spear, a native of The Colony, Texas, averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 2.5 blocks while knocking down 60.7 percent (17-for-28) of his shots from the field. In an 80-59 triumph @ Wright State (12/1/22) to help the Colonials open league play with a victory for the second time in the last three seasons, Spear matched a career high with 27 points and also recorded five boards, three blocks and three steals. Two days later Spear established a career high with five thefts and also tied for team-high honors with 13 points @ Northern Kentucky (12/3/22). Having now reached double figures in six consecutive games, Spear has improved his overall averages during the 2022-23 campaign to 14.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per contest.
