Keri Meyer

Keri Meyer

Robert Morris University head softball coach Craig Coleman announced the hiring of Keri Meyer as an assistant coach in June 2014.

Meyer made an immediate impact upon her return to Robert Morris as she dramatically helped improve the program. RMU went from an eighth-place finish in the year prior to Meyer’s arrival to the outright regular-season title in her first season back in 2015. The Colonials finished with a 13-3 mark in league contests after starting conference play 11-0, the best such start in school history. RMU’s progression in 2015 stands as the best single-season turnaround for a conference champion in NEC history. As a result of this performance, Meyer was named as part of the Northeast Conference Coaching Staff of the Year. Meyer helped six Colonials claim All-NEC honors and five Colonial position players earn all-league accolades in 2015, both marks which tied school records.

Meyer played a central role in helping increase the production of the Colonial offense in her first season back in Moon Township. She helped RMU lead the league in hitting, both overall and in league play, as the Colonials posted a 40 point improvement in batting average and an 88 point uptick in slugging percentage compared to the season prior to her arrival. Robert Morris’ scoring increased by more than 23% in 2015 compared to 2014. RMU boasted three of the top six hitters in the league in batting average, each of whom saw her production increase greatly under Meyer’s guidance. Meyer helped Kristen Gabelt to a breakout season that saw the outfielder improve her batting average by over 100 points and her slugging mark by more than 250 points. Ashley Gerhart and Jordan Gurganus also saw at least at least a 100 point improvement in their slugging marks and at least a 50 point uptick in their batting average with Meyer’s assistance.

Meyer, a former standout on the diamond for the Colonials, brought collegiate head coaching experience as well as prior involvement coaching in the Northeast Conference to the RMU program.

Meyer most recently served as the head coach at Monroe College where she helped the Mustangs post a 10-win improvement from her inaugural season to her second year at the helm in 2014. Her other prior collegiate coaching roles included being an assistant for two seasons at Fairleigh Dickinson and also spending one season after graduation assisting with Robert Morris. Meyer also spent multiple years as a hitting and fielding instructor at ProSwing of Port Chester Athletic Training Facility, a center that specializes in training youths in softball and baseball.

Meyer is one of the most accomplished players in RMU history. She led the team to the 2005 NCAA Tournament by batting .418, a single-season school record that still stands, while posting a league-leading .472 on-base percentage and a .620 SLG%. She was named NEC Player of the Year that season and also claimed first team all-region honors for her remarkable contributions. Meyer was also the toughest player to strike out in Division I in 2005 and holds the best single-season at bat-to-strikeout ratio of any Division I player since that season.

Meyer helped the Colonials to a pair of NEC regular-season titles in her four years and was a three-time All-NEC honoree. She remains among the career top 10 in a variety of offensive categories at Robert Morris including batting average (.342), hits (165), doubles (29) and walks (46). She scored 85 runs and added 77 RBI in her career and ended with a .409 OBP and a .500 SLG% over her four years. Meyer was inducted into the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.

A native of nearby Carnegie, Pa., Meyer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Robert Morris in 2006. She proceeded to earn a Master of Administrative Science degree from Fairleigh Dickinson in 2009.
