Volleyball Defeats Duquesne 3-0

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Robert Morris University volleyball team traveled to Pittsburgh, Pa. for a non-conference match against Duquesne, Tuesday night. The Colonials defeated the Dukes, 3-1 (30-21, 30-26, 30-26), at the A.J. Palumbo Center, improving to 10-11 on the season, while the Dukes fell to 8-16.

The Colonials offense was paced by junior middle blocker / outside hitter Emily Wolthuis (Byron Center, Mich. / South Christian) with 15 kills and 11 digs along with one serivce ace and one assist. Senior middle blocker Janette Schneider (Leetsdale, Pa. / Quaker Valley) tallied 11 kills, four digs and two block assists. Juniors Haley Schroeder (Kenmore, N.Y. / Kenmore West) and Jennifer Stambaugh (Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) each tallied 10 kills. Schroeder also finished with six total blocks, while Stambaugh also recorded three block assists, three digs and one assist.

Junior setter Tawnya Storino (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) recorded 45 assists and 12 digs along with one service ace, one block assist and one kill. Sophomore Alaina Gibson (Muncie, Ind. / Muncie Burris) finished with a team high 15 digs.

The Colonials enter their final non-conference match on a two-game win streak when they travel to Seton Hall on Saturday, Oct. 14. The match is slated for 2:00 p.m.
