Men's Hockey Suffer Sweep At Quinnipiac

Northford, Conn. / Northford Ice Pavilion - Quinnipiac University completed a two-game sweep of the Robert Morris University men's hockey team with a 5-1 win in Northford, Conn., Saturday night. The Bobcats took a 3-1 decision Friday night to even their season mark at 2-2 following Saturday's game. Robert Morris falls to 1-2 on the season.

Saturday night's game was highlighted by penalties and power-plays as the officials whistled a total of 30 penalties that lead to 23 power play opportunities. The Bobcats went 2-13 on the man advantage and the Colonials only goal came on one of their 10 chances.

Quinnpiac took the lead just 5:47 into the game on Ben Nelson's first goal of the year. He added his second marker of the season, this one on the power play, with 18 seconds left in the first period to give the host Bobcats a 2-0 cushion after the first period.

The second period was nearly a repeat of the first with David Marshall scoring early, 3:40 in, and Brandon Wong scoring late with 24 seconds left in the stanza. Wong's goal came on the power play as the Bobcats built a 44-17 advantage in shots on goal through 40 minutes.

Colonial sophomore Chris Margott (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Bay State Breakers) netted his second of the year and series 9:33 into the third period on the power play, cutting the margin to 4-1. Junior Sean Berkstresser (Apollo, Pa. / Pittsburgh Forge) and senior Aaron Clarke (Peterorough, Ontario / Niagara University) earned the assists.

Wong's second tally of the night, an empty-netter, capped the scoring with 25 seconds left in regulation.

Robert Morris senior netminder Joe Tuset (Eagan, Minn. / Northern Michigan University) ended the contest with 43 saves. Bud Fisher had 26 saves for the win. Robert Morris was called for 17 penalties and Quinnipiac had 13.

Robert Morris travels to Cornell for a 7:00 p.m. game Friday, October 27.
