Fairfield, Conn. - The Robert Morris University volleyball team defeated Sacred Heart (1-18 / 0-2 NEC), 3-0 (30-28, 30-15, 30-21), Sunday afternoon. The victory improved the Colonials to 11-12 on the season and 1-0 in the NEC.
Senior middle blocker Janette Schneider (Leetsdale, Pa. / Quaker Valley) led the offense with 12 kills. Schneider also tallied four total blocks, one service ace and one dig. Schneider's three block assists gave her 136 for her career, moving her into sole possession of fourth place on the RMU All-Time record book. Also leading the offense was junior outside hitter Jennifer Stambaugh (Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key). Stambaugh tallied 11 kills, one dig and one assist.
Junior setter Tawnya Storino (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) tallied her eighth double-double of the season by tallying 34 assists and 12 digs. Storino also recorded one kill and one block assist.
The Colonials return to action when they travel to Loretto, Pa. to take on NEC rival Saint Francis, Pa. The match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
