Loretto, Pa. - The Robert Morris University volleyball team traveled to Loretto, Pa. to take on rival Saint Francis (Pa.). The Red Flash (14-12, 3-0 NEC) defeated RMU, 3-1 (24-30, 30-26, 30-21, 30-25), marking only the second time the Colonials have lost a regular season conference match in four-years under head coach Rob Thomas. With the loss, the Colonials fall to 11-13 on the season and 1-1 in the NEC.
Junior middle blocker / outside hitter Emily Wolthuis (Byron Center, Mich. / South Christian) led the Colonials offense with 15 digs, 13 kills, two service aces and one block assist. Sophomore outside hitter Cassie Lee (Vista, Calif. / Vista) chipped in 12 kills, six block assists, five digs and one assist. Leading the way for the Colonials with nine total blocks was senior middle blocker Janette Schneider (Leetsdale, Pa. / Quaker Valley). Schneider also finished with five kills on 21 attempts.
Junior setter Tawnya Storino (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) recorded a match high 37 assists, to go along with five digs and five total blocks. Sophomore Alaina Gibson (Muncie, Ind. / Muncie Burris) finished with 19 digs, two service aces and two assists, while senior opposite Lisa Jaszka (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) tallied 11 digs, one service ace and one dig.
The Colonials return to action when they return to the Charles L. Sewall Center to take on Long Island on October 28 at 1:00 p.m. and St. Francis (N.Y.) on October 29 at 1:00 p.m.
