Brookyln, N.Y. - For the third straight year the
Robert Morris University volleyball team was defeated by Long Island in the NEC Tournament finals. The Blackbirds ended the Colonials season with a, 3-0 (30-12, 30-22, 30-22), victory.
Junior setter Tawnya Storino (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) and sophomore Alaina Gibson (Muncie, Ind. / Muncie Burris) were selected to the 2006 NEC All-Tournament Team.
Junior outside hitter Jennifer Stambaugh (Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) tallied a team high eight kills along with eight digs, one assist and one service ace. Storino dished out 26 assists and recorded five digs, two kills and one block assist, while Gibson tallied 13 digs.
Senior Janette Schneider (Leetsdale, Pa. / Quaker Valley) ended her excellent career as a Colonial with seven kills, two digs and one block assist, while senior opposite Lisa Jaska (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) tallied five digs and two kills.
The Colonials, under the guidance of head coach Rob Thomas finished the 2006 season with an overall record of 17-16. RMU will lose Jaszka and NEC All-Conference selection Schneider to graduation.
