Moon Township, Pa. - The
Robert Morris University volleyball team hosted Central Conn. State in a Northeast Conference match Saturday afternoon at the Charles L. Sewall Center. The Colonials defeated the Blue Devils, 3-1 (23-30, 30-28, 30-20, 30-21), improving their overall record to 13-14 and 3-2 in the NEC. The loss dropped CCSU to 17-8 on the season and 4-2 in the NEC.
Senior middle blocker Janette Schneider (Leetsdale, Pa. / Quaker Valley) recorded 13 kills, seven total blocks and two assists. Schneider's 13 kills give her 974 kills over her four-year career at Robert Morris, placing her in fifth place on the all-time record book. Joining Schneider in the RMU record book is senior opposite Lisa Jaszka (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster). Jaszka totaled four service aces and four digs against the Blue Devils. Jaszka's four service aces give her 42 service aces on the season tying her with current Colonial Alaina Gibson (Muncie, Ind. / Muncie Burris) and former Colonial Cyndi Dunslow for seventh place on the RMU single season record book.
Junior Emily Wolthuis (Byron Center, Mich. / South Christian) led the Colonial offense with 18 kills, 10 digs and one service ace. Jennifer Stambaugh (Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) totaled 10 kills, four block assists and one dig, while sophomore Cassie Lee (Vista, Calif. / Vista) finished with seven kills, seven digs, two service aces and one block assist.
Junior Tawnya Storino (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) dished out 47 assists to go along with eight digs, three total blocks and two service aces, while Gibson tallied 10 digs for the Colonials.
The Colonials close out the home portion of the season Sunday Nov. 5 against Quinnipiac. The match will be played at the Sewall Center at 1:00 p.m.
