RMU Drops Pair on First Day of Towson Invitational

Baltimore, Md. - The Robert Morris University volleyball team opened its 2006 campaign Saturday by dropping a 3-0 (30-15, 30-20, 30-17) decision to Ohio State before suffering a 3-0 loss to host Towson (30-24, 30-28, 30-25) at the Towson University Invitational in Baltimore, Md.

Four Colonials tallied five or more kills vs. Ohio State. Sophomore middle blocker Haley Schroeder (Kenmore, N.Y. / Kenmore West) led the way with eight kills, followed by Emily Wolthuis (Byron Center, Mich. / South Christian) with seven kills. Senior middle blocker Janette Schneider (Leetsdale, Pa. / Quaker Valley) and sophomore outside hitter Jennifer Stambaugh (Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) both tallied five kills.

Sophomore defensive specialist Alaina Gibson (Muncie, Ind. / Muncie Burris) led the Colonials with seven digs, while junior setter Tawnya Storino (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) tallied six digs and a team high 25 assists.

The second match of the day also saw four Colonials tally five or more kills. Wolthuis led the way with 11 kills, followed by Cassie Lee (Vista, Calif. / Vista) with seven kills. Schneider and Stambaugh each finished the match with six kills.

Gibson tallied double-digit digs with 16, while Storino finished with a team high 32 assists.

Robert Morris, under the tutelage of fourth-year head coach Rob Thomas, continues play in the Towson Invitational tomorrow, Aug. 27, when it faces the University of Houston at 11:00 a.m. before heading home for the Omni William Penn Invitational (Sept. 1-2) co-hosted by Robert Morris and Duquesne.
