Fort Wayne, Ind. - The
Robert Morris University volleyball team defeated Texas Pan American, 3-2 (30-26, 25-30, 30-21, 27-30, 15-12), in the opening match of the IPFW Tournament Friday night. The victory improves the Colonials to 7-7 on the season, while Texas Pan American falls to 3-12.
Leading the offense for the Colonials was senior middle blocker Janette Schneider (Leetsdale, Pa. / Quaker Valley). Schneider finished the match with 20 kills on 39 attempts, six blocks and one service ace. Junior middle blocker Emily Wolthuis (Byron Center, Mich. / South Christian) tallied 20 digs and 16 kills to record her fifth double-double of the season. Wolthuis also finished with one service ace and one block assist.
Junior setter Tawnya Storino (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) also recorded a double-double for the Colonials by tallying 56 assists and 11 digs to go along with six kills and four block assists.
The defense was lead by sophomore Alaina Gibson (Muncie, Ind. / Muncie Burris). Gibson finished with a team high 25 digs along with one service ace.
Robert Morris is next in action when it takes on Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne at Noon and South Dakota State at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23.
